If you haven’t tried Diok Pit He or as we call it, Stuffed Shrimp, you are missing out on something great! With shrimp, pork, fish and vegetables, it’s dubbed as one of the best after workout meal or quick prepare meals.
Created by the pioneers of Sinbad in Manila, we were lucky enough to be shared the recipe of the original Stuffed Shrimp. My aunts then started to manufacture Stuffed Shrimp back in the 90s but went to a screeching halt when the business was goofed by the big corporations. Supermarkets weren’t paying the business regularly. We were promised 15, 30, 60 and 90 days but when the terms weren’t realistic enough to run the business, my dad just opted to stop everything and quit.
Since the closure, our relatives have been asking us for the recipe of the Stuffed Shrimp but since it’s a secret, we didn’t give them anything.
A few more years have passed, we tried to recreate the Stuffed Shrimp. I remember back in college, I used to bring a couple of cooked Stuffed Shrimps and shared it with my friends. They then ask me “Where do you get this stuff?” I answer them with a slight grin “it’s homemade.”
Fast forward to 2015, we decided, why not?
We then tried again, recreated the recipe, added a few tweaks to it and voila! The Stuffed Shrimp is now back in the market. But unfortunately, big supermarkets and groceries won’t have Stuffed Shrimp available. It’s just per order basis.
The Stuffed Shrimp is now back and it’s better than ever!
